Welcome to Dudley kingswinford Running Club

Dudley Kingswinford Running Club is built around people - community, camaraderie and the joy of running together.  known as one of the most sociable running clubs in the region we host regular races, attend team events and make sure ecery session is as enjoyable as it is active.

Whether you're taking your first steps into runniing or you're a seasoned athlete, there's a group for you. Every session is led by an official run leader and our golden rule is simple; nobody gets left behind.

Founded in 1984 by Dr Dick Blackburn as part of Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club, DK Running Club has grown into one of the leading clubs in the West Midlands with a thriving community of both men and women.

If you are over 18 and looking for motivation, friendship and a welcoming atmosphere, you'll find it here. Whether you love competitive racing, relaxed parkruns or a chatty md-week trot with friends, come and join the blue hoops.

Our Training Schedule

The club meets at Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club, Swindon Road, Wall Heath DY6 0AW every Tuesday and Thursday evening, with groups setting off at both 6pm and 7pm.

Our midweek sessions offer several groups based on distance, typically 4 - 8 miles, and a range of paces (the routes are posted on the Facebook and WhatsApp pages prior to the evening run). Every group is led by an official run leader and our promise remains the same : nobody gets left behind. Whatever your pace or experience, you'll always have someone to run with. Every runner is welcome.

Paces per group are approximate but listed below:

6A - 8 - 9.15 minute miles / 7A - 8.45 - 9.30 minute miles

6B - 9 - 10.30 minute miles / 7B - 9 - 10.30 minute miles

DK beginners

New to running or coming back after a break? Our Beginners course starts in April each year.  With support from experienced runners, you’ll ease into running at your own pace, with plenty of encouragement and fun along the way.  After completing the course, you will graduate by completing the Gavin Tipper 5km race which is held in June each year.

Cross Country / Road Relays

Cross Country events are open to all UKA club members.

The Men take part in the Birmingham & District Cross Country League and are currently in Division 3.

The Ladies take part in the Midland Women’s Cross Country League and are currently in Division 2.

Club members can also take part in the twice yearly Sutton Park road relays.

Our Races

DK 10K

The annual DK 10K Road Race is the largest mid-week 10K race in the Midlands and takes place on closed, quiet, undulating country roads. Held on the first Wednesday in May at 19.15hrs, it is chip timed.

Awards are given to top 3 male and female finishers along with age group winners M40, M45, M50, M55, M60, M70 and F40, F45, F50, F55, F60, F70.

      Gavin Tipper 5K

The Gavin Tipper 5k race takes place every year in June at Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club.

The Gavin Tipper Race is held in memory of Gavin with proceeds from the race going to Action Heart. Gavin was a member of DK Rugby Club playing for many years and is part of DK Rugby history by scoring DK’s only try at Twickenham. After retiring from the game he gave something back to sport by coaching children at Black Country Triathletes, Tipton Harriers as well as Halesowen cycling club. His encouragement of children in sport and passion for everybody taking part is one of the reason the Gavin Tipper 5K is so popular. The race also coincides with the DK beginners runners course that culminates in the beginners taking part in the 5k race.

New Year’s Day Handicap

The DK New Year’s Day Handicap takes place, predictably, on 1st January each year at DK Rugby Club, Wall Heath.

The race will start from 11am so you have plenty of time to shake off your New Year’s hangover. All you need to do is give us your current 5k time and we will do the rest. You will need to pre register for this event responding to the post on DK Facebook Community Page. All entries will cost £5 which you can pay on the day. This is a great friendly sociable race and a fantastic way to start the new year.

Numbers will be limited so please get your entry in early. Please note that the roads will be open to traffic so all runners are responsible for their own safety. The course will have marshals at every potential danger point and will ensure that the race passes off without incident. Tea, coffee and cake will be available at the club house after the race.

Grand Prix

The DK Grand Prix is Dudley Kingswinford Running Club’s annual competition designed to boost race participation, encourage volunteering and add a fun competitive element for all members. It helps to support and showcase the club by increasing race attendance and volunteering and all club members are automatically entered.

How It Works

  • Members earn points across an annual schedule of events, including around 30 races, monthly parkruns, volunteering and cross‑country.
  • Only the best 5 race scores and best 7 parkrun scores count toward the overall total.
  • Events range from 1 mile to half marathon.
  • Points come from:
    • Completing an event
    • Club finishing position
    • Distance PBs
    • Course PBs

Fixtures

London Marathon Club Ballot

If you’re an England Athletics affiliated member and have been with the club for over a year at the time of the draw, you can enter our exclusive ballot for a guaranteed London Marathon place. The odds are far better than the main ballot.

Socials

We are an extremely sociable running club, made easier by the fact that we have a permanent base at DK Rugby Club. Our runners regularly socialise after club runs in the bar area.

Once a month, we have a whole club run where everyone is invited to run a pre-selected route which is chosen by each run group along with the format of the evening. We then gather back in the clubhouse afterwards for a cob and drinks or whatever that chosen group has decided to host for the evening.

Also on the DK social calendar are the very popular Halloween and Christmas runs where runners can dress up in fancy dress and take to the streets of Wall Heath/Kingswinford in a big group run.

We hold charity events, quiz nights, a Christmas do and Awards evening, as well as non-running related activities such as a day out canoeing and of course a cob run to the Anchor.

Come and join the fun - everyone is welcome.
