Dear Member,

I hope you are enjoying this rather wet rugby season, and what is already round six of our current campaign.

Our senior rugby section as a whole, has suffered more than its fair share of injuries so far this season, with many of these classed as medium to long term. It is a wonderful compliment to our playing section that despite this, we are still able to field 3 competitive senior teams regularly on a Saturday afternoon.

Our First XV have had a solid start, and despite losing some key players to injury, have recorded 3 emphatic victories, coupled with 2 difficult losses away from home against the current top two teams. I know the boys are very much looking forward to playing them again at Fortress Heathbrook.

It is a long campaign, and I think this very competitive league will take some time to settle down with many weekly results continuing to be close throughout.

Our Knights and Wasps have been nothing short of heroic in their efforts to field competitive, constantly fluctuating teams as they bear the brunt of our current injury situation. My sincere thanks and appreciation go out to all our Coaches and Managers for their significant efforts.

Our Colts have also had a steady start to the new season, and are already posting some good results, showing real progress from last season.

Our Vixens are taking a little time to settle into their new league, and have lost a couple of close games that I think they have every chance of winning after spending more game time together. I think the rest of the season looks bright for them despite some stuttering fixture dates.

Our superb M&J section continue to provide so much Sunday morning energy at Heathbrook, something I most definitely lack. My heartfelt thanks again to all our coaches and parents for dragging yourselves out of bed and providing such an inclusive and positive rugby environment for our younger players.

Our football section has had some difficult fixtures so far this season, but have put in some impressive performances and continue to grow and improve, Everyone involved in this growing section do the DK badge proud.

Our ever popular and vibrant running section continue to erm…run. A lot.

Away from our various pitches, our summer program of improvements to our facilities has been well received. I am very happy to say that our car park is now no longer a lake, and our new drainage has already dealt with an impressive amount of rain superbly.

Our new patio doors were an unforeseen but necessary improvement as the old doors had seen better days. The new doors have been fitted with fire escape bars to help improve the safety of our members and visitors.

If you have been around the club in the last few weeks you may have seen our new club mascot Hoggy. He is very friendly and welcomes any opportunity for a selfie, so please give him a wave or go up to say hello if you see him.

Our new club podcast, The Blue and Blue Podcast, is available on Spotify and via the club website with weekly news and match reviews, so please have a listen.

Looking forward, we will shortly be commencing renovation work to the Gents toilet facilities. During this time, the toilets will be closed, but extra provision will be provided.

Don’t forget our many exciting events coming to DK, including our Fireworks Spectacular, and our Ultimate Bingo Party. Tickets for all our events can be booked online through Ticket Tailor, which can be accessed through the Events tab on the club website.

Whatever you are doing at DK, please enjoy it and thanks again for being a part of our wonderful DK family.
