We finished 2021 on a positive note.
Paviours came to Heathbrook having shown good form in their previous fixtures.
With still a long list of injuries we made tactical and positional changes to the team.
The squad and coaches had worked hard in training in the build up to this fixture and this hard work paid dividends.
I feel the first half performance was one of the best we have put in this season. We showed good discipline, created scoring chances, and took the opportunity to put points on the board. Paviours were always going to come out and battle in the second period, but solid defence and good game management meant we finished the year with a well-earned win.
A two week break over the Christmas period gave us a chance to rest the bodies and look forward to the New year and a visit to Sandbach for our first game of 2022.
We had been lucky up to that point, that the dreaded “Covid word” had not really affected us when it came to player availability. Unfortunately, we were notified on the Monday that three of our players had been tested positive.
We drafted players in to fill gaps but by the Thursday evening another five cases had been confirmed in players and coaches. In accordance with guidelines, we felt we couldn’t safely field a side to send away to Sandbach.
To finish on a positive note, all players and coaches are currently fit and well and we look forward in welcoming Scunthorpe to Heathbrook this week. As all fixtures at this level, we expect a tough game.
