Again, a very mixed two weeks since I last wrote. Enforced changes to the squad saw us take the field against Burton with a different looking team. We put in a good first half performance and went into half time with a lead on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, early injuries in the second half didn’t help. It led to a very patched up defence which a well coached Burton team exploited to their advantage and took the win.
A rest week helped with time to rest injuries. The players had met during this period and highlighted areas that needed addressing, both technical and their personal approach and preparation.
We knew that a trip to Doncaster was always going to be tough. Reports had said they were a good outfit. Reports were correct. They came at us hard in the first quarter and put points on the board.
In past games we have seen morale drop when the score goes against us. This week the Dk Dog was back! A fully committed performance both in attack and especially defence saw us come away with a well deserved win on the road. This week will be another big test. Syston are one of the form teams in the division at present.
It will need another fully committed performance, also weather forecast doesn’t look too good at the moment!
