Saturday saw a level 6 game in M1W between Kidderminster and Dudley Kingswinford, and the away side DK collect a 86 -12 win, it was top versus bottom, but surely this highlights a flawed league system.
DK scored fourteen tries and conceded two at the end of the game. For majority of the game DK were able to dominate possession of the ball and consequently were able to stress the Kidderminster defence, both off first phase and longer passages of play.
The first try was early on in the game and DK moved the ball across the field and back to Tommy Walker on the right wing giving him a one on one with his opposite number, Tommy used his pace to beat his man and score the first try, Sam Vaughan added the extras 7-0 to DK.
On 12 minutes, DK added a second try, it followed a Harry Bayliss break in midfield and then linked with support runners to his right and Sam Vaughan timed his run into the DK line to break the line and add the second DK try, he converted as well 14-0 to DK.
A third try came after a DK backs move deep in their own half saw Tommy Walker released down his wing, this time the cover was about to get to him, and a pass inside kept the move going, then pace was injected by Stef Shillingford, who crossed into the 22, before being stopped but was able to find Sam Vaughan on a supporting angle that saw the DK full back under the posts for his second try, and he converted his own try, 21-0 to DK.
The bonus point try was started and finished by Danny Hawkins, a pick up at the base by Danny, was enough to put the backs on the front foot and the ball was moved towards the right wing, Sam Vaughan joined in the line, and in turn fed Tommy Walker who was off to the line again, this time the cover arrived and the inside pass found Danny Hawkins in support to finish the move off, no conversion this time, 26-0 to DK after 21 minutes.
The fifth try followed a good run by Dilhan Ararca which led to a penalty and a kick into the corner, the line out was overthrown, but our rear gunner Arran Hudson was awake to the opportunity, and caught the ball and drove over the line, and Sam was back on target, 33-0 to DK.
The sixth try was Tommy Walker’s second, and it came from a simple blindside move from a scrummage which saw Stef Shillingford beat the defence with a well-timed pass to Tommy who raced down the wing for his second try, and 35-0 to DK.
The final try of the half came from Stef Shillingford who picked off a Kidderminster pass deep in the DK 22 and went the length off the pitch and under the posts, plus the extras from Sam 45-0 to DK.

The management emptied the bench at half time and they were soon in the action. Charlie Baffour took just 5 minutes to get on the scoresheet, following a scrummage he popped up outside stand off Harry Bayliss and cut his way through the defence to score under the posts, Sam was on target again so it was 52-0 to DK.
Try nine, came when the two centres combined and Stef Shillingford broke through the line and was supported by Ryan Smitheman who collected Stef’s pass to score in the corner, 57-0 to DK.
Try ten, came following a line out and a backs move which was halted in midfield, but it was DK’s two hookers on the field at the same time, arrived and James Ryan continued the move, and offloading to James Fildes to finish the move, Sam was back on target 64-0 to DK.
It was James Ryan who made it eleven tries when he reaped the benefit of trailing Stef Shillingford and was on hand to finish the move, and put DK 69-0 up.
Try twelve saw James Fildes repay Stef Shillingford, when roles reversed and Stef scored a second try and the score was now 74-0.
Kidderminster broke their duck with a fine individual run by Matthew Parker who raced down the wing and beat several would be tacklers and the extras from Andy McLellan so it was now 74-7.
The next try came from a DK scrummage, another Danny Hawkins pick and drive, gave DK a numerical advantage, which they took full advantage of and put Sam Vaughan through a gap to score his third try, and a conversion 81-7 to DK.
Next it was the gallant Kidderminster team, who scored following a cross kick, the score was now 81-12 to DK.
DK finished the scoring when Sam Vaughan crossed for his fourth try to make it 86-12. Sam’s haul of points was 36.
