DK “Old Boars” Charity Bike Ride
DK’s Social side, “The Old Boars” did a Charity Static Bike Ride this Saturday at the club. They did the 393 miles which is the equivalent of DK to Brussels in Belgium!
With the help of cash donations and a BBQ they have also passed their target of £900
Wouldn't it be great if they could breat the £1000 mark.
Go on, give they a hand!
They are raising money for the Charity CHUF (Children’s Heart Unit Fund). CHUF's mission is to make life better for children and young people who are born with or who develop heart conditions by providing lifelong support to them and their families
So why CHUFF.
Well, one of the Old Boars players has a niece called Grace.
This is her Story
Grace was born November 26th 2019, shortly after her birth she was diagnosed with a mild heart problem. After investigation she was diagnosed with a condition called Cardiomyopathy. With medication Grace seemed to be coping fine.
On 15th March 2015, 2020 Grace started being sick, would not drink her formula and her breathing changed. Her parents took her to hospital, and this was when their life got turned upside down.
Grace was transferred by air ambulance to the Freeman’s Hospital Newcastle where she was put on Levitronix VAD.
On the 19th May 2020, she had the Berlin Heart fitted, since then she was taken off the ventilator and is no longer sedated, she still has a long way to go waiting for the heart transplant.
This happened through COVID-19 lock down putting her parents, 4 year old brother and their families under a lot of pressure and stress.
Grace is now developing into a very happy and smiley little girl, who enjoys all the attention she receives from the dedicated doctors and nurses looking after her.
During their time in Newcastle they are being supported by CHUF (Children’s Heart Unit Fund) without their support Grace's parents feel they would not have been able to cope. The parents and families are so grateful and are wondering how they could repay the charity that have given so much support to them.
