As we know from the original minutes book from 1920 our club was formed by a group of 16 employees from Harper, Sons and Bean Ltd in May 1920. This meant that we were officially 100 years old in May 2020. But as we are all aware we were unable to celebrate due to Covid.

The “Book” goes on to document all our games for the following 2 seasons. In season one, 1920-1921 we were referred to as Harper Bean, after the company. The following season, 1921-1922 we moved to the County Ground in Dudley (Castlegate) and in our first game of that season, 17th Sept, we played Camphill O.E. 3rds winning 34 – 0, we were still referred to as Harper Bean.

The following Saturday we played a club trial match, the Dudley works v the Tipton works, Tipton winning 13 – 3.

The interesting point comes next! On the 1st October 1921 we played Springfield College, winning 14 – 3. For the first time the records showed us as Dudley!

The significance of this is that next weekend 2nd October 2021 at our match v Sheffield at home, will be our 100th anniversary (almost to the day) of having DUDLEY in our club name!!

The Kingswinford arrived in 1927 when we affiliated to the RFU as Dudley (Kingswinford) RFC
